Food at The Home School

At The Home School, food is an integral part of our philosophy of simplicity, wellness, and holistic living. All meals are freshly prepared each day in a well-equipped, hygienic kitchen, where safety and cleanliness are paramount. Menus are thoughtfully planned to include fresh vegetables, seasonal fruits, whole grains, and pulses — giving children balanced nourishment for healthy growth.

The school provides breakfast, lunch, dinner, and three snack times daily, and families may opt for the meals that best suit their needs. Every meal reflects a balance of taste and health, while festive occasions are marked by traditional dishes that connect children to cultural heritage.

Mealtimes themselves are designed as opportunities for community learning. Children sit cross-legged on the floor in groups, eating from plantain leaves in the traditional way. This practice not only promotes simplicity and eco-consciousness but also nurtures mindfulness and a sense of equality. Meals are served in turns by students and facilitators, helping children learn the art of serving others with care and humility.

Snacks are light and healthy, providing sustained energy through the day, while clean, filtered water is always available. Facilitators encourage mindful eating, gratitude, and good food habits.

The school kitchen is run with attention to hygiene, sustainability, and minimal food wastage. Students are also introduced to gardening and simple aspects of food preparation, linking them to the cycle of nature and nourishment.

At The Home School, food goes beyond nutrition. It is a shared experience of community, responsibility, and values, reminding every child that to eat well is to live well — with respect for self, others, and the environment.
