Upper Primary Division (Grades 3–5)

The Upper Primary Division at The Home School includes Grades 3, 4, and 5, which correspond to Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Stages 3, 4, and 5. At this stage, children begin to expand their horizons — building on foundational skills while engaging more deeply with subject-based learning. The curriculum covers English, Mathematics, Science, Global Perspectives, Computing, Tamil, Hindi, and French, giving students both linguistic breadth and global exposure

This division emphasizes a balance of academic growth and holistic development. In English, children refine reading and writing skills, moving from phonics and foundation grammar toward advanced comprehension, vocabulary, and creative expression. Mathematics introduces multi-step problem-solving and logical reasoning, while Science encourages hands-on inquiry, experimentation, and field-based projects. Global Perspectives broadens their understanding of cultures, sustainability, and community, nurturing empathy and global awareness.

The learning atmosphere is active and collaborative. Children participate in project-based and inquiry-driven activities that promote critical thinking and teamwork. Outdoor explorations, technology integration, and field visits enrich classroom learning and connect concepts to real-world contexts. Facilitators provide continuous feedback through formative assessments, presentations, and Cambridge Checkpoint evaluations, ensuring steady progress without undue academic pressure.

Beyond academics, Upper Primary students enjoy a rich palette of extracurricular activities and clubs: Bharatham, Kalari, Silambam, Karate, Chess, Yoga, Art, Music (Veena, Vocal, Mridangam), Theatre, Photography, STEM Club, Literary Club, Eco Club, and House activities. These avenues build confidence, discipline, and creativity while fostering leadership and collaboration.

By the end of Grade 5, students emerge with strong literacy and numeracy skills, a deeper sense of responsibility, and an eagerness to explore. The Upper Primary Division ensures that each child continues to grow naturally — intellectually, emotionally, and socially — preparing them for the challenges of Lower Secondary with confidence and curiosity.
